Recently Ms. McDaniel had a group of 6th graders participate in the Southeast Alabama Model United Nations (SAMUN) program. SAMUN is an educational simulation and academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. SAMUN involves and teaches participants research, speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
Ms. McDaniel's group represented the Nation of Turkey. They wrote a resolution outlining an issue that Turkey has and asked the United Nations to assist in fixing that problem.
Today, students received from Dr. Bynum their individual participation certificates, team certificates, and a plaque for Best Resolution, which is the highest award in the entire competition.
Mrs. Tate worked with Mrs. Smith last Spring to complete the application for the Dollar General Literacy Grant. We are pleased to announce that our library was granted $2500.00 from Dollar General for the purchase of new books.
Next time you visit your local Dollar General, notice the Literacy Grant box next to the cash register. Donate your spare change. They really do give back to your local school.
Thank you to the Dollar General Corporation, and to all those that donate.
